Bad luck

Last weekend I finally decided to replace the faulty SID chip on my first C-64, which developed a problem with the filter on voice 1. When the filter is activated, that voice pitch drop a full octave down.
The only available SID chip that I had was soldered on a C-64 I use to canibalize for parts, so I picked the soldering gun, the de-solder pump, and in a couple minutes the SID was free, it was easier than I thought.

Luckily, the faulty SID that I wanted to replace is socketed, so I replace it with the 'new' one. Turned the machine on and loaded the demo Dawnfall, it sounded weird, but I didn't know why. Then I loaded the Stereo Sidplayer, the music in the presentation played correctly, the same with other .mus files, until I played one that used the filter on voice 1... this time the voice was completely muted
So... the original faulty SID is back in it's place.

First of all, as the title says: Happy 2007!!! to all my thousands of readers (hey, I can dream...)

This year it's the 25th anniversary of both the Commodore 64 and the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and the 30th anniversary of the Commodore PET, Apple II and Tandy TRS-80 Model I.

Lack of originality, or: "My version of the Matrix rain effect written in 6502 asm"

Well, I finished this little piece of code back on November 27, but I wasn't sure about releasing it as is or use it in something bigger... but lets face it, this effect has been used too many times in demos and intros, so is not worth it.

Some little 3D objects to start with the 3D models dedicated gallery

This is the start of the 3D models gallery, where I'll put only the little objects that I have modelled. Big or more complex objects or scenes will have it's own gallery as the Fan Racer on the previous entry.

The first objects are:
-A 5.25" Floppy Disk, modelled as part of the logo for the "First Old Computer Expo"
-A TO-220 Transistor or IC
-Three surface mounted IC's of 14, 16 and 20 pins

Fan Racer

This was my first completed 3d model, finished back in May 2003.
It's done mainly in Truespace 1, and used Truespace 3SE only for some boolean operations. This plane is the 'Fan Racer' used by Macross character Hikaru Ichijio (Rick Hunter in Robotech) in the firsts episodes of the series.

My first full ASM plasma

Just before the blog went offline, I finished my first plasma for the C64, fully written in 6502 assembly language.
It's just a monochrome plasma, nothing fancy except that it's 'full' screen and double buffered to prevent any flickering.
